Aspen police take on city graffiti

The Aspen Police Department issued a new weapon to officers today in an effort to combat graffiti: spray paint. Three APD Officers dedicated most of Friday to combing the alleyways of Aspen in an effort to rid walls, dumpsters, and electrical boxes of years worth of graffiti. At first glance, Aspen doesn’t appear to have an abundance of graffiti, but a quick stroll down one of the many alleys proves otherwise. Officer Thompson believes that covering graffiti is important because, “when kids see graffiti on the walls, the think it is okay to follow suit.” Aside from creating an environment where graffiti is unacceptable, it is important for the APD to help improve the image of the city, creating a sense of pride amongst residents and feeling of safety for visitors.

Please note that Aspen Police Officers did not cover graffiti on walls unless they were able to make contact with the owner of the building, therefore not all graffiti has been covered.
