Here’s the APD’s press release:

ASPEN, CO (2/2/14) At approximately 9:00 am this morning the Aspen Police received a report of an abandoned backpack and jacket along the Tiehack bridge. Upon arriving on scene, Aspen Police officers spotted what they believed to be the body of an individual in the base of the creek bed.

Upon further investigation this suspicion was confirmed, although officers were unable to reach the body due to terrain and snow conditions.

The Pitkin County Sheriff’s office worked in coordination with the APD on this incident due to jurisdictional boundaries between bridge and creek bed. Mountain Rescue Aspen was also contacted to assist with retrieving the body from its location and arrived on scene around 11:00 am. All field operations were complete and personnel were out of the field by1:30 pm.

Foul play is not suspected in this case. The Pitkin County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased as Stewart Oksenhorn (DOB 11/28/63). Additional details regarding the cause of death will be released by the coroner’s office.

The special thank you to the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office and Mountain Rescue Aspen for the care and concern they took in assisting with this incident.
