A coroner's examination of a teenage basketball player who died on the court inside Aspen High School's gymnasium yesterday produced "inconclusive" results.

"Further toxicological and microbiological tests will be conducted," read a statement from the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office, which noted the autopsy was performed today in Grand Junction.

“The results from these new tests are not expected for a couple of weeks,” according to the Pitkin County Coroner’s Office.

Sheriff's deputies said there are no suspicious circumstances being considered as part of the investigation.

Quinn Evering, 16, of Toronto, Canada, collapsed Monday afternoon after arriving in Colorado and checking into an Aspen Basketball Academy camp that same morning. He was playing basketball in the gym when he collapsed. Dispatchers received a call reporting that Evering was "semi-conscious" at 2:55 p.m. Bystanders in the gym tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate him. Paramedics and emergency responders transported him to Aspen Valley Hospital where he was declared dead at 4:12 p.m.

The Toronto-based Globe & Mail described Evering as a 6-foot, 5-inch all-around great guy with many talents.

"He was close with his mother, a single mother whose love of the saxophone inspired her only son to learn the instrument and record himself playing her favourite songs," the Globe & Mail's Kate Hammer reported. "His family said ... they don’t know why he died so suddenly."

Evering's family told the Globe & Mail that the teenager was a great athlete and in perfect health.

Evering would have been in the 11th grade this year. He attended the Aspen camp with a friend.
